Hello. I would like it to be made apparent that, due to cat-related circumstances, I'm currently writing this powered by a whopping 3 hours of sleep. Any complaints regarding sluggishness of pace or poor grammar can be directed care of Bobbicus B. Parsnips. The B stands for Bugger.
Anywho, things! And whilst things, consider this thing:
Having made an appearance in an earlier young-January comic and bored into my brain as so many OCs do, we have (subject to change) bestowed our blue-and-cyan drake friend the name 'Dunne'. This is phonetically short for 'Dante', spelled as such because 'Dan's already pronounced differently, something they're often annoyed by. Anywho, suffice it to say you'll be seeing more of them. In this update, specifically.
Now for the slightly bad news: I had previously mentioned my desire to focus this year on a very specific line of work, specifically producing one comic, one video and one newsletter per month alongside making enough money through commissions to cover living costs. Well, two months in and I'm already handbrake-turning course. Everything kind of went up the proverbial chute in February and, diminutive stature notwithstanding, productivity was at a stonking great low.
Between pet issues, focus issues, failed projects and more than a few miscalculations on my part, there will be no newsletter nor video this month and I have to spend the rest of it scrambling for funds. Nothing to panic about, I have commission work lined up, it's just an administrative embuggerance. On the plus side though my non-work-hours have been very productive in making a game I'll probably never finish. That's right, it's time for the Unreadable Devlog of the Week!
For reference, one of my goals this year was to make either a game or 3 demos. Currently I'm planning on the latter and, despite having chosen the largest (by far) to crack first, it's worth noting that giant chunks of the code I'm writing will be useful for all three demos. So this is actually me being productive, honestly. 🥺
Now rest assured I am very much still ploughing on with videos and newsletters as best I can, but when work hours are concerned survival is unfortunately top priority. The two or three videos and many newsletter nonsense ideas currently hovering around various stages of completion will just have to sit on the back-burner for a sec. I hope you understand. I also hope you forgive, since that's much harder than understanding. It's pretty easy to understand, really, I've just explained it all.
Going forward will be more of a 'rent first, fun later' kind of vibe, wherefrom I can actually ascertain exactly how much time I'll have to work on extracurricular activities having already have fulfilled my 'Staying Alive' obligations prior to beginning them. I call this 'Gibb Gud'. Because Beegees.
Anyway, enough admin, something silly.
I never did have pancakes. Shame.
Before we get to the section on streaming and thus the part where the format solidifies and your brain can switch off, a few other bits and pieces swept up in the dustpan of my life: Aforementioned video work on two in-progress art videos is well under way, both of which ought to be out by the end of April. I attempted to resurrect another video which fell on its face late last year, alas to no avail. RIP "Final Fantasy VII Horror Rescore" video, my heart wasn't in you. Many RPG shenanigans have occurred, which I tend not to bring up other than the fact that Akten, my worried little goat fellow, is currently on the brink of death. We'll see how that goes this evening. He's always got a place in Avonvale though, don't worry.
Streaming! Yes that's right, switch off your brain, you know what's coming now.
Having hacked through the dense shrubbery that was the plot of Sherlock Holmes: The Silver Earring we then set about rewriting the whole thing in the first Fool's AU in quite some time. And much fun it was too. In the subsequent clearing we've set up camp in the nostalgic war-crime jank of Medal of Honor! So far neither Stevie Spielboig nor Michael Geeyacheeno have sued me for streaming it, nor for butchering both of their names.
Elden Ring """'"'"''"Seamless' Co-op continues as flawlessly as ever on Saturdays, although the evening of the 7th will see us switching gears over to the Grim Hollow RPG for a brief jaunt in the world of Dark fantasy. Thence to recover we have relaxing friendly social parallel doodle times. How quaint.
Did I mention three hours sleep? I'm slightly struggling to focus on the screen right now, so I might hop off and grab a brief lie down before I rejoin the coal-face of commission work. Thank you all for your support, even if returns seem a little thin on the ground of late. Every trough has its peaks, we've just got to do a little climbing, is all.
Look after yourselves,
Crispy 💜
